"Just a bit further..." she said through gritted teeth.

Stretching her pale bony arm up towards her goal, she tipped her toes until the faded pink bows on her slippers nearly kissed the old dusty linoleum.

Closer... just a little bit closer. The bright green fruit seemed to mock her. It sat there ever so smugly upon the over polished oaken floorboards, warmed by streaks of sunlight that sneaked its way past the blinds.

There! Her trembling hand reached her prize. Slowly, slowly she grabbed it.

Her hand, her elegant fingers of ivory, met nothing but the stale air that hung in the cold room.

Why... Why?

Alas, my sweet lady... this world is not your world. What lies here shall only bring you pain. Things your eyes can see, your eager hands may never touch. Such is the cruelness of this wretched place.
